In times of yore there lived a carpenter

But still, he would make folks full of laughter

With the learned humour he oft displayed.

Knowing this a village beauty proposed

To be his wife if a circle be squared. ③

To this, his deep wisdom flew to his aid,

He made a square box, placed a marigold

① “Evol” is “Love” spelled backward. “Keem”, Old English, verb, a variant of

“Come” as in “Love comes to those who wait.”

② “Case”, Pun as in (1) a particular situation; and (2) a box.

③ Having total confidence in our intelligent carpenter, the beautiful girl knows

that he will pull off something very special. Indeed, he has ! The carpenter opts

for a simple resolution as “Simplicity is the soul of wit.”

④ The garland, circular in shape, of course, symbolises a marriage ring.

不问功名有短长。

知足诗中常满月，

贪婪身外总残阳。

人心自古难真假，①
